C-ute Interview

translationed from hello-onine… well, i think i’ll stop saying this, because almost ALL my translations are from hello-online XD!

i really really liked the interview =) and the members said almost the same things about yajima XDDD lol

Yajima Maimi

—-The new song Namida no Iro has a Latin sound to it. Was it difficult to deal with the rhythm?

Yajima: This was our first Latin song, so it felt very mature. When I first saw the lyrics, I had trouble understanding the feelings of the girl in the song. So I thought about it, and I asked the other members, “What do you think about this?” “Does this mean she still has feelings for the guy she broke up with? Does she really hate him?” I’m sure that different people will see the lyrics in different ways, but for me, I think that there’s still a feeling of love there. But she has to forget him. That’s how it felt. When I actually sang it, I got completely into this other world and things got hot.

—-Latin music does have a hot image, doesn’t it? It’s interesting to have a song of farewell sung to a passionate latin beat.

Yajima: Yeah (lol) I think it’s hot because the girl is so strong. Everybody was saying that it was difficult, but I thought, “If you flow with the music, the right emotion will come to you naturally.” There’s a part during the back chorus when all the C-ute members sing together, but I think this is the part people should listen for.

—-So, Yajima, why do you think this couple broke up, and how did she get to be this way?

Yajima: According to the lyrics, he cheated on her, but that’s too mature a situation for me to understand (lol) But like she says in the lyrics, “It’s a little early, but I get into bed”, so she’s feeling nostalgic for her boyfriend.* And she says “it’s time to fight” that. So, I think she really is feeling lonely. I tried to imagine how I would feel in the same situation, but it’s too mature a world for me, so I couldn’t really get it. So, I think about watching dramas with plots like that while I sing. I’m sure there are people who have experienced this kind of situation, but I like to think that I’m able to sing it so that people who haven’t experienced it can understand.

*Note: Maimi recalls the lyrics wrong here. The actual lyric translates as “It’s earlier than usual, but i get into bed.”

—-The title of the song is “The Colour of Tears”. What colour do you think that is?

Yajima: It felt to me like mature colours, like black and blue. I think that this is the most mature song that C-ute has ever sung. You can see that maturity in the video as well, so please pay attention to our expressions. The dance is Latin style with clapping scenes, so I hope people will watch those dance shots too. Our last song “LALALA Shiawase no Uta” was a happy and cheerful song, but this one is completely different, so I hope that people will understand that C-ute can do this kind of song, too.

—-The B-side song, Darling I LOVE YOU is very “C-ute style”, though.

Yajima: Yes. The lyrics feel like a really innocent and cute kind of love. I think that people our age will be able to relate to a lot of it. With two completely different musical styles in one release, I hope people can enjoy both moods!

Umeda Erika

—-What kind of person is your leader, Yajima Maimi?

Umeda: She’s someone who pays attention to those around her, and thinks carefully about them.

—-What do you respect about Yajima, and what would you like her to change about herself?

Umeda: (Respect) She’s got good reflexes. (Want her to change) There’s nothing about her I want her to change. She’s good just how she is!

—-Please tell us which parts of Namida no Iro and Darling I LOVE YOU we should watch out for.

Umeda: In Namida no Iro, the lyrics are very mature, so we sang it paying attention to expressions and emotion. In Darling I LOVE YOU, the lyrics are really cute, so it can make you embarrassed to listen to them.

Nakajima Saki

—-What kind of person is your leader, Yajima Maimi?

Nakajima: She’s easy-going, but also really reliable. Even though she’s spontaneous, she’s aware of the rest of us. If she were a more controlling leader, I don’t think C-ute would be what it is today.

—-What do you respect about Yajima, and what would you like her to change about herself?

Nakajima: (Respect) She always has a positive attitude. If she’s ever having trouble or feeling down, she gets down about it just once, then thinks about a way to make it better and moves on. (Want her to change) Sometimes… No matter how many times I call out “Maimi!”, she doesn’t notice. But I’m getting used to that… I guess that’s part of being scatterbrained?

—-Please tell us which parts of Namida no Iro and Darling I LOVE YOU we should watch out for.

Nakajima: In the Namida no Iro video, the whole video is key. The dancing with the occasional slow motion shot is really cool. I hope people can see the way the members’ expressions become those of the girl in the song. With Darling I LOVE YOU, you should pay attention to the lyrics. They’re really cute and girly. The C-ute version is good, but so is the Berryz Koubou version, so you can listen and compare them.

Suzuki Airi

—-What kind of person is your leader, Yajima Maimi?

Suzuki: She can be a bit scatterbrained and easy-going, but she’s a leader who can keep us under control.

—-What do you respect about Yajima, and what would you like her to change about herself?

Suzuki: (Respect) She’s got great reflexes. If something happens, she cares about it. (Want her to change) There’s not really anything… But I guess, she can be a little bit forgetful (lol)

—-Please tell us which parts of Namida no Iro and Darling I LOVE YOU we should watch out for.

Suzuki: Namida no Iro is a very mature song. The melody is mature, but the lyrics are especially mature. Parts of it were difficult, but I hope I was able to get my expression right… Personally, I put a lot of feeling into the final falsetto part, so I’d like you to pay attention to that. Darling I LOVE YOU is a bright and rhythmical song. I think we were able to make it feel like the kind of love girls our age feel.

Okai Chisato

—-What kind of person is your leader, Yajima Maimi?

Okai: She has her easy-going side, but she’s very important to me. Maimi really is the leader of C-ute.

—-What do you respect about Yajima, and what would you like her to change about herself?

Okai: (Respect) She’s good at settling things down. (Want her to change) She doesn’t need to be less scatterbrained, but I would like her to notice more when things around her change.

—-Please tell us which parts of Namida no Iro and Darling I LOVE YOU we should watch out for.

Okai: Namida no Iro has the most complex lyrics of any C-ute song, and we put a lot of effort into getting the expressions right in the video. The lyrics in Darling I LOVE YOU are cute and show an innocent girl’s feelings.

Hagiwara Mai

—-What kind of person is your leader, Yajima Maimi?

Hagiwara: She’s really kind and in-control, but she can also be a bit scatterbrained. But I think that’s what makes her a fascinating leader.

—-What do you respect about Yajima, and what would you like her to change about herself?

Hagiwara: (Respect) What I respect about her is her control and her kindness. (Want her to change) There’s nothing about Maimi that I want her to change.

—-Please tell us which parts of Namida no Iro and Darling I LOVE YOU we should watch out for.

Hagiwara: The song is really cute and shows a girl’s real feelings. Please listen to it.

Arihara Kanna

—-What kind of person is your leader, Yajima Maimi?

Arihara: Maimi is someone I really respect.

—-What do you respect about Yajima, and what would you like her to change about herself?

Arihara: (Respect) The way she moves around with a sense of responsibility as leader. (Want her to change) She can be a bit too scatterbrained… But I like that about her too… (lol)

—-Please tell us which parts of Namida no Iro and Darling I LOVE YOU we should watch out for.

Arihara: Namida no Iro is very mature song, maybe too mature for us, but it’s an amazing song that has a “power” that can move something in my heart. Darling I LOVE YOU is completely the opposite of Namida no Iro. It feels like “a schoolgirl’s love”. Please listen to both songs. In the video we use fur walls to represent the inside of the girl’s heart, which makes it very mature… That’s what I think.
